Buying a car in Italy and driving back to UK

Looking to drive a car to Italy, exchange it for another and drive the new one back to UK and register it here.

This side of the water I’m familiar with, it’s over ten years old so no VAT or duty etc. But what’s the score in Italy is there any way to do things like HPI type of check and any special paperwork needed etc?
