Just bought a bargain Golf V5 for £150.

160k miles and a misfire seem to be the only minus points, all be it they're quitebig ones. But everything else seems to work as it should, I can't see any rust and if the worst come to the worst the scrap man will give be £140 for it.

Time to dust off the fault code reader and see what the misfire is.

I had a toledo v5 great sounding engine. Just hope the misfire isn't stretched chain.

I had one from new did 70K in it. Faultless.

Still one of the best cars I ever owned.

Codes read misfire on cylinder 4 and 5. Plus this multi cylinder misfire. So swapped the coils around a bit. Found only one was duff. Replaced it and the car is running sweet. Think I've got my £150 (+£22) worth out of it already!

Was about to say on a V5 it'll be coil/coils - they seem to like doing that.

I bought a misfiring and incredibly badly faded one a few years ago for no money at all; after a used coil and machine polishing it was spot on.
