V8S front springs and dampers

Just curious -- thinking back to my days of V8S ownership, I'm sure the springs seats didn't look like those in the pics (circled) of the £16K one at Fernhurst. They seem to have been wound-up way too high -- any thoughts ?

I suspect they measured the ground clearance from the outriggers
