Genuinely bemused as to why a single conservative MP today decided to block a Bill to make 'upskirting' a criminal offence. Maybe there's something he needs to admit to??

I'd hope there's something contentious in the bill but given only 1 person objected I'm guessing not

Without context, its hard to understand why any member would block this.

I might be ignorant on this, but if this had passed this stage would it have become law or gone on for further debate?

I can understand if that MP had a genuine reason to want more debate on the bill before it came law, but to block a good law... well... its a bit gobsmacking.

Very interested to know the full details because at face value it seems totally bizarre.

As this is politics I suspect the honourable lady had done something that needed repaying, perhaps the objector was a chum of the MP she unseated.

Is not this covered by other legislation anyway - outraging public decency or similar?
Genuine question.

People who vote for the party, not the person. He wears a blue rosette, so he gets their vote.

It's why FPTP needs to go.

I would have thought so too.

Why the guy voted against this bill is beyond belief. Is it just to get his name in the headlines, or is he not all there?

It makes you think there must be something more to it that isn't obvious because nobody can be that much of a muppet, can they?

This bill was intended to make prosecution for the offence more straightforward. If you read through some of the background / articles it explains it more, but in essence the legislation at the moment makes it difficult to prosecute.

He also voted against Equal Marriage rights and minimum wage reforms. I would hope perhaps he misunderstood the bill, but i suspect not. He's just a WGC.

No, it's why people need to think about their vote.

If FPTP goes, then nobody has any chance to object to the individual.

Chope does appear to have the CV of an ocean-going . I'm surprised he's not a lot more popular around here.
