Water In Boot

Hi everyone had the Chimaera for about a week now and have realised that the boot must be leaking as there is water in both sides the bit right in the rear wing on the left and also under the spare wheel on the right. Doesnt seem to be coming through the boot seal or through the edge of the hinges. Any other ideas?

Mine was leaking through the two bolts holding the boot catch in the rear panel. Problem also less apparent after waterproofing rear targa????

I dont think its the catch as this isnt wet, also this isnt just damp its likme verging on a puddle basically it very wet but i cant feel and wet apart from on the floor any other ideas please!!!

Try parking it the 'other way' mine leaked when boot was highest but dry when boot was parked down the hill.
I have heard of one boot that was constantly damp and grew mushrooms.

Well, let it dry out and then chuck a sprinkler over it for 30 minutes. That way you'll know if the water is getting in from above.

The water could perhaps be getting in at the back of the hood?

Check in the hand book to see if it had the "swimming pool" option fitted.

If not it could be where the boot hinges attach or round the edges of the lights or even the black rubber strip that runs across the back of the bumper (early cars only).

Check the drain holes aren’t blocked. They are located just behind the rear wheels in the bottom of the boot, if there blocked the water cant get out and will collect in the bottom.

just cured the same problem on my griff.the water was getting in through the bolt holes through which the bolts go that hold the boot hinge in place.using clear mastic i covered the underside of the head end of the bolts and all but the very end of the bolt thread with mastic,then put the bolt through and put the nut back on,wiping off the excess mastic from the outside after the nut was fully tightened.problem solved.

When sealing bolts be very careful that the sealant you use does not contain silicon. Silicon causes steel to rust and Aluminium to corrode.

Lock the Mrs in the boot with a torch, close boot and use a hosepipe over boot. Let Mrs out when she finds the leek. It's as simple as that!

I had a damp boot, caused I think to water leaking in under the rear number plate. Took the plate off, bead of silicone round it, fixed it back on. The boots been dry since :touchingwood:

From your profile, its a '94? So you have the black rubber strip across the back of the car and the flush, backlit numberplate?

My '96 had a wet boot until I solved these two:

Check behind the numberplate, around the numberplate light clear perspex bits. Also stick a little silicone sealant around the screws behind there.

Also, check around the ends of the black rubbing strip to see if its leaking into the boot. In the end I ran a thin bead of black sealant around the whole bumper strip.
