this is a contentious thread. I can think of two companies mentioned above who are definitely not shining stars in the world of customer service...

for the record, mine are:

Tesco Insurance

MacDonald Racing of Lanchester

I don't think we should honour Orange to be honest, nor Elephant.

Good customer service is not doing "what it says on the tin" - that is expected customer service. Good customer service is shown when things go wrong, and how quickly it is put right. And of course when you ask for something a little out of the ordinary.

From that point of view, I nominate British Airways. General standard of service is not the best, but when things go wrong, they pull out all the stops to put it right.

T'Audi dealer in Brum. Its quite simple really, they treated me like a human - and im not just putting them because they let me loose in a BRAND NEW Audi A4 Cabrio (black, red leather interior - no plates ) at my age.

Joospeed - Absolutely stunning service, really goes out of his way to make sure things are just right for the customer. No nonsense approach to everything.

Silverstone TVR - Generally very welcoming and gave me and Rico plenty of thier time despite knowing all too well we couldnt afford any of their cars at the time. Very professional set up, made damn sure all cars were warmed up before test driven (not as common practice as you would imagine elsewhere!) If I ever want a new TVR - they can expect a call from me in a few years.

How shocking, thats all I can think of right now. Would have a list a mile long for poor customer service though...

Footman James Insurance - excellent call centre staff, very friendly, docs through next day and after all that the cheapest quote by a mile.

BA again - never anything other than excellent when I used to go transatlantic a lot.

At HMV we are genrally very good at customer service.

Of course there are always one or two rotten apples but they don't last long.

I've noticed that all HMVs now get thier staff to ask if you are looking for anything or need help.

Stamped them by asking for the new Calyx LP - No Turning Back on vinyl. Lokked it up on the copomuter, & told me they wouldn't stock it on vinyl, but I did see it on CD in a branch.

Still I suppose they tried!

Joospeed
TVR Power
SurfBlue Garage (Mini Garage in Notts)

All of these have gone out of their way to help me and I would just like to say a big thanks!

Disagree with the fruity colourful one though Can't really say more as I suspect it would go against Ted's N&S policy.

Some stores are unable to stock vinyl for various reasons. Usually it's coz of sh*t suppliers, especially with stuff like D&B.

HMV receive monthly customer service evaluations in the form of "mystery shoppers" and "mystery telephone calls." Staff are evaluated on a set criteria for customer service (being enthusiastic, friendly, polite, greeting the customer etc) and also on their knowledge of the products that the shopper asks for.

If one person fluffs it up, then everybody in the store loses their customer service bonus for the month, which is a bummer because that bonus can add another 2k a year on to their annual income.

Danboy,

Thanks for the insight re: HMV.

I got the Calyx LP from Selectadisc in Nottingham instead.
