Not sure where to post this but there’s been some discussion around these parts of the Pioneer CD-IB100 iPod adapter, particularly concerning the compatibility of this device with existing Pioneer head units.

Some web-based articles suggest that any IP-Bus enabled head unit will cope with the iPod adapter, so I thought that my DEH-P4400 (complete with full IP-Bus facilities and already working happily with a DAB tuner) would be up for the job.

However, after fitting the adapter this morning I found that the head unit could not see it. My local car radio specialist, while unfamiliar with the specifics of the adapter (which has only just been released in the UK), believed the firmware on the DEH-P4400 (which is two to three years old) is incapable of handling the adapter. I asked whether the firmware could be updated and he said no.

So, if what the specialist says is true, the advice seems to be to go with what the iPod adapter manual says: if your head unit is not listed in one of the four head unit groups then you may need to change it, regardless of whether it has an IP-Bus. I upgraded to the DEH-P7700MP, which is very nice but was something of a surprise to my wallet.

I looked at this too and according to the article
below on the Pioneer website it should be compatible
with all units after 1994?

What can I say? It didn't work with the DEH-P4400 but it works with the DEH-P7700MP. My former head unit is definitely post-1994.

Maybe the firmware is upgradeable, perhaps via the CD player.

Also the Pioneer website is incorrect - it only works with generation 3 iPods or newer, not generation 2
