Z4M Coupe Warranty???
Discussion
Is it worth it
67,000 miles
Z4M Coupe with full service history
BMW want:
Comprehensive cover is £1800.00
Named component is £1400.00
Driveline is £1008.00
Can see it would be cheaper to go non-BMW - any recommendations.
Is there much that is likely to go so badly wrong we need a warranty?
thanks

as far as i know, and its limited on the zm, the biggest cost is rod bearings and vanos. The rest of them seem to be quite bullet proof, and im not sure which bm warranty level would actually cover the engine, think it sonly the dearest one. I would say maybe keep that money aside instead, as ive heard other warranties can try to wiggle on stuff like that.
Another example of the ///M Tax ;-) Is there an excess on each claim as well?
I've got a Z4M Coupe and a E91 335i. The Warranty on the 335i is less than £500 a year.
In terms of stuff that can go wrong, rod bearings have already been mentioned. If you're worried you could get them changed for less than 1 years warranty, about £800-1000 from a specialist I believe.
I've had mine in a while and a wheel sensor failed (about £100 to replace). Also, the DSC Pump / Hydro Unit failed. BMW just bolt on a new one for £1500, but there's a few companies who can refurbish them for £300-400 ish. Z4-Forum.com is a good resource and a few people seem to have had these failures.
Other than that they seem pretty robust.

Survivalist - did you get a warranty for the M? Did you go with BMW?
I didn't bother in the end. Everyone seemed to say that the BMW one was the only one worth having. That said I do know someone who got Warranty Direct to pay out when the timing chain went on their 320d. Survivalist - did you get a warranty for the M? Did you go with BMW?
I also decided that I'd rather have mine serviced at a specialist than by any of my local BMW dealers, down to service levels rather than cost. Although I think the BMW warranty will still provide cover as long as it is serviced to schedule.
Rod Bearings and Vanos aside they aren't very complex and there's loads of good specialists who can repair at a much lower cost than BMW offer (who generally just bolt on new parts)
