Hi All,

I've recently taken the plunge and purchased a 2013 (981) Cayman 2,7 which I have to add is an absolute crackerjack of a car!

I would be incredibly grateful for any of you Cayman geniuses could help me out with changing the alloys? Currently on the car are the standard wheels (18 inch, five spoke) but I am looking to upgrade to a set of 19 inch which I think will give the car an edge.

Would anyone be able to advise if the below 19 incher's would slot on without any problems? And if there are any problems can they be overcome easily?

The 19 inch alloys are from a 2012 Cayman I believe but I don't know much more than that! (image below)

Really appreciate any help with this!

You need to check the width and the offset of the wheels you're looking at versus those on your car. 911 wheels don't fit Caymans for example.

Thanks Twinfan,

The wheels on the car currently are -
265/45Z/R18 - back.
235/45Z/R18 - Front

The 19 inch alloys I'm planning to fit are-
265/35Z/R19 - back
235/35Z/R19 - Front

Does this shed any light?

Thanks

Really? What's the problem with 19's on a 2.7?
Appreciate the advice!

You're quoting tyre sizes not wheel sizes smile Specs for your wheels are here: https://www.wheel-size.com/size/porsche/cayman/201...

Front tyre - front wheel
Rear tyre - rear wheel

235/45R18 94V - 8Jx18 ET57
265/45R18 101V - 9Jx18 ET47

235/40R19 92V - 8Jx19 ET57
265/40R19 98V - 9.5Jx19 ET45

235/35ZR20 88Y - 8Jx20 ET57
265/35ZR20 95Y - 9.5Jx20 ET45

235/35ZR20 88Y - 8.5Jx20 ET57
265/35ZR20 95Y - 10Jx20 ET50

They do not match the tyre spec for 19s on a 981 Cayman, so even if the wheels are correct the tyres are wrong.

It looks like they're wheels and tyres from a 987.2 Cayman.

19 is an odd number?
Better with 20's like the ones I have on my 2.7 981.
Lower profile means less rubber to wear out.
Larger diameter means you go faster.
Less air = cheaper and quicker to inflate.
Less chance of the rim falling out of the tyre.
20 is a nice even number.
20" more popular so tyres cheaper.
...and other totally rubbish answers!

Thanks Twinfan,

Yes I believe they are from a Cayman 987.2.
I've seen the same wheels on a 981, so assumed (probably incorrectly) they would go onto my Cayman?

Is it a straight no - avoid at all costs, or is there a way around it so they fit?

Again, thanks for the advice.

But seriously... those aren't 981 wheels so are unlikely to fit. Plus your insurer would need to agree non-standard wheels.
Find some 981 19's or 20's.
20's are fine with standard suspension but you may find the ride harsher. Mine has PASM which dramatically reduces the firm ride on 20's.

Front wheels are the same, rear offset is 1mm different so you would need a 1mm spacer.

Incorrect tyre profiles will affect your speedo reading.

Yep they definitely fit. I'm running PS4S 245 35 19 front and 285 35 19 rear as the rims are slightly wider than the standard ones. Marginal difference in rolling radius.
