250 GTO goes to auction

RM Sotheby's will be offering a 250 GTO at their Monterey auction in August. With another example selling for a reported $70M just a few weeks ago, what do we think this one will go for?

It's not exactly the most attractive 250 GTO that has ever been for sale. The roofline is quite unattractive so i'm out!

$70m?! It was only a few years ago that one broke a record for something like $12m!

Lhd, so will affect its resale when you come to p/ex it against your TDI s-line.

Plus its a pretty basic spec. Povety spec, I think they call it.

And its not grey or silver. The market prefers grey or silver.

Ive got an article somewhere with anthony bamford. He wanted one of the Bond DB5 back in the late 60s, and approached the film people. They agreed on the sum of £1500. He thought that was good value (a new capri was £890). He had actually bought BOTH film cars for £1500, so swapped one for his 250GTO. The cheapest 250GTO ever??

I am sure its the real deal but doesn't the engine and chassis numbers look like they could have been over stamped! I know back in the day the stamping would have been done by hand but the engine number looks a tad suspect! Also would you by a car that has the wiring connected with 'chocolate block' look in the boot. But would still love it on my drive!

I am just in awe of the photography. I guess he was using an f1.4 lens to get such a shallow depth of field. Those photos are works of art on their own.

It's funny how we view these things. I think the '64 is way better looking than the '62 which works in my favour as if I'm in the minority here I might get a bit of a bargain here.

Is anyone actually prepared to talk seriously about the sale of this car, its history, is it a real car, has it had serious accidents and been rebuilt, etc.? Or as usual today is this just another thread that will descend into dross - or already has. For God's sake, this is one of the most important cars in the world; treat it as such.

I do know that it is affordable only to the super-rich, but why on earth can we not discuss the car as what it is instead of posting inane comments?

I wish the price tag and investment value was not the sole point of the discussion about 'classic cars' and we could just talk about driving the bloody things..........(or even fixing them )
