Cheap(ish) code reader for E92 / DIY use?
Discussion
Any Bluetooth ODB dongle plus the free Torque app on your phone will get you into to the car's systems for about £20 but only at a basic level. Carly is the next level up, and is very good, simple to use, lets you code additional functionality into the car and about as much as you need without being a l33t haxkor about the whole thing IMO. The down side is their code reader is about £35 and the app was £50 but is now a subscription model.
I'd go with the bluetooth dongle and see how you get on

With moderns I say car specific or you are almost throwing your money away.
I'd go with either INPA or iCarly. ISTA/D is another superior version of INPA but INPA is easier to install etc.
Not even my garage's Snap-On Solus can provide as conclusive codes for my BMW (and a mate's) as my INPA lead.
