So I get my motoring kicks these days from fast bikes. But I need a car for the winter because riding in the cold and rain to work is miserable. Requirements:

Around £15000, but minimal loss in value more important (could go higher)
Very easy to sell on quickly after winter
Not interested in sporty. Wafting around in comfort is what I want
Auto
No SUV's or diesels

Cheers

Err, yeah budget correct. But like I said, minimal loss of value very important. Will probably put 3000 miles on it over winter.

Mercedes C55 AMG (these are appreciating nicely)

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Not as strong as the C55 but the CLK55's still command good numbers.

BMW M6 (I know the car below & it's been maintained well) There aren't lots out there but they've suffered the worst of the depreciation & if you find a well looked after one then you'll sell for similar money.

I'm biased but this:

Comfy, AWD, 3.6l petrol V6, heated windscreen, mirrors, front and rear seats. Winter barges don't come much better.

Quite like these. Not sure about ease of selling on or value drop though...

And we have suggestions of Z4m’s / M6’s / AMG Mercs laugh

I’d say the only suggestion which hits most requirements is the Skoda. Might struggle to shift it quickly though.

OP, you might have more choice if you open your criteria to diesels.

For example, a nice BMW F31 330d X Drive Touring with the ZF8 speed auto:

You do realise that winter tends to happens every year?

What's the point of spending quite a lot and hoping to recoup most of it when you sell after winter? Presumably only to have to repeat the whole buying/selling process again the following winter.

Why not just spend quite a bit less and still have decent, reliable reliable car that you can just keep permanently even if you hardly use it in the summer?

And after chiding others for ignoring that he doesn’t want sporty cars, you ignored the “no diesels” rule wink

Well I take your point but I find it quite fun (if a little hassle) changing cars for each winter.

I'm a little flabbergasted by this thread. Come October I'll be looking for another £200 stter for the winter to save my bike from the salt!

The BMW shout isn't a bad one. I've just sold an e92. Is the ride comfort of those later 3er's on M Sport any better? E92's are intolerably bad IMHO.

Runflats and rubber band sidewalls will do that

It didn't have runflats. Still awful.

This is probably close although breaking my own rule about diesels, albeit a good one.

https://goo.gl/Ra5Ju2

What's the feeling about selling diesels on though? Is it becoming harder or just particular models?

You would be far better off spending 5k and keeping hold of the vehicle. No real wories about it losing money and far less hassle than changing cars every 3000 miles!
