Considering a Mk6 or Mk7 Golf GTI.

What should I look out for on these cars? I vaguely recall issues with the TSI engines in the Mk6? Is the Mk7 worth the extra outlay?

Also is there any particular spec/options to look out for?

Cheers.

I wouldn't bother with a MK6 if a MK7 is in budget.

Yes don’t bother with a mk6, the engines aren’t twin charged it’s just a turbo. But they really do miss out on lots of kit compared to the mk7, which has great standard kit and is a better drive

Don’t forget to have a little look at a seat leon cupra, same engine, more power, cheaper

The Mk7 is a massive leap forward so the one to go for if you can afford

The Mk6 GTI was only really a heavy facelift of the Mk5 with a less reliable version of the engine, so not their greatest...

Yep, you can find some bargain early mk7s at the moment. From experience take it for a good drive and make sure the clutch doesnt slip. Check the wheels as they kerb easily. The early ones had sticky fuel filler flaps, check this but its an easy fix, the early ones also didnt have satnav/heated seats or keyless as standard so if your not bothered about those then make sure price is reflected. Try and get one with the PP (performance pack) extra HP, bigger brakes and special diff which really makes a difference.

As above ^^ Look for a car with the performance pack, it makes a lot of difference to the car and will be more desirable when it comes to selling it on.
