Afternoon,

After some advice - I have recently purchased a cheap vehicle to use as a runaround, requiring minor repair work.

This was purchased from auction from a well-known salvage vehicle vendor, and was marked as "Stolen Recovered" on the listing.

I have carried out a HPI check on the vehicle - which shows "License Plate & VIN currently recorded by the police as stolen" - I know the stolen marker stays with the vehicle, however the check sounds like the vehicle is showing as stolen at present - I can image being stopped and having to prove the vehicle belongs to me.

I have the V5 for the vehicle provided by the vendor & also the sale receipt to show my purchase, can I go down to my local police station to have the marker removed?

I have tried looking briefly around the internet, but information appears non-conclusive.

Any advice appreciated, thanks!

Maybe give 101 a call and ask them or pop into your local station (park the car elsewhere though biggrin )

You would need to go to the station and take the paperwork you have with you. They won't do anything over the phone for obvious reasons.... you could be anyone after all.

So pop in and speak to the staff on the counter and they should be able to square it all away for you.
