So..i am cooking a chilli con Carne and it turns out the beans my mother has in her cupboard already "so you don't need to buy any" are twenty yrs old!

What would you do? Go to the shops (15 mile round trip) cook the chilli without beans, or risk it?

Twenty bloody years out of date for christ's sake!

I actually had something similar a few years ago, albeit with a tin of ovaltine.

It was about 10 years out of date, and the powdery ovaltine had turned totally solid in the tin, with a completely flat shiny glass like texture on the surface.

Very odd!

But did you use it or leave it out of the chilli?

OP, I wouldn't risk it but it's your stomach...

Upon opening, things look ok..

When I attempted to pour the contents out, I just got some gloopy syrupy looking liquid and the beans stayed put.

Chill con carne with no red beans coming up!

Edible but not eatable - bit like school dinners!

Who lives 7 miles away from the nearest shop? I’m guessing calling Ocado to bring you a tin is out of the question?

Are the tinned ones already cooked? I really wouldn't know!

Anyway, I chucked them.

Yes, cooked. You could rinse them though.

To be fair that happens to Ovaltine after a week. I always have some to add to the kids milkshakes and I usually have to chisel it out of the jar

Many many people!

We’re 8 an a bit. But strangely we’re less to a mainline station that’s about an hour into Paddington.
