Hi guys, was looking for some ideas/help about this problem..

So there is a constant humming noise from my wheels area. It doesn't change in tone (like it doesn't sound faster as I progress along the road)

Very much a constant humming noise.

What I am about to say makes me think it's the tyres but they are in very good condition and are continentals, what do you think?

Continental Eco Contact 5 215/45 R17 V (87)

There is a new and smooth particular stretch of tarmac on my commute home from work where this humming noise will almost completely go away (you can still here it, but only very slightly)

I can here it right down to 5-10mph.

However, if it's something like the differential, it will transmit through the tyres/engine mounts that smooth tarmac will dampen out? so I'm not 100% about it being the tyres.

I don't think a tyre humming noise can be heard at 5-10mph?)

I have raised the front wheels and spun the wheels and there is an almost spinning noise but I dont know if you can expect a FWD wheel to spin without any noise?

In short.: There is a humming noise that happens from 10 mph that dissappears on 1 piece of tarmac.

It's a vauxhall corsa 2017. It's been in under warranty and while they didn't fix it, they did try. (by try I mean tell me it's fixed when it's not)

This has been an issue since January and it hasn't got any worse (or better) if that helps..

Your theory that it's tyre noise seems as good as any, although I haven't known that to be so persistent. Perhaps you could try altering the tyre pressures a couple of psi? If it had any effect on the noise, that would support your theory that the tyres are causing it.

Hello, thanks for the reply, I forgot to mention that I have messed around with the PSI on all tyres and rotated the tyres from front to rear and no difference was made on either of these times frown

It could be the tyres....easiest thing to do is change the tyres.

It's only a Corsa, there must be hundreds of cheap wheel/tyre sets available on gumtree or wherever.

it could be a wheel bearing, although as you seem to imply the noise comes from all corners that is less likely.

The fact that the noise disappears on a particular piece of tarmac implies that it is the tyres. Check the tyres for abnormal wear patterns such as sawtooth / treadstepping.

I’ve had tyres that when getting close to minimum tread they started to hum. I thought wheel bearings at first but it wasn’t. New set of tyres fitted and the hum stopped. Pirelli and Avon were the ones that made the noise. Khumo tyres went down to the tread limit and never made a sound.

As above, the ONLY thing that changes with road surface as you say is the tyre contact so there is your culprit, fit better/newer rubber.

I thought i'd update as I hate looking at topics and threads that never get updated with any results and what the problem was but the cause of this constant noise I was having was the n/s/f tyre, it had a flat spot and was otherwise a bit lumpy. Thanks, the silence now is really nice.
