I'm idly musing at the above cars but I haven't driven any of them yet...

I'm under the impression that they are very different propositions with a wide range of disparity beyond the badge I'm looking in the £15k to £20k bracket, which appears to get me an older 911, a newer Boxster or a 'somewhere-in-the-middle' Cayman.

Advice from those of you who have driven, owned or stolen any of these three most welcome.

The Boxster and Cayman are the same car. I don't understand why anyone would buy the Cayman over Boxster - it might be a little stiffer but the infinite headroom is just so much better.

I just preferred the looks of the Cayman. Boxster was never in the running for me. I’m 6-2 and have no problems with headroom.

I own a 2.9 generation 2, 987 model Cayman which your budget covers. I love it. I use it all the time.

Can’t comment on running 911s or Boxsters. Anything in particular you’re looking for? They all offer slightly different things really, naturally biggrin

I prefer the looks of the Cayman and it’s also available as a GT model. I’d suggest cone heads take the bus anyway

I personally wouldn't risk a sub £20,000 911

They can throw up some huge repair bills.

I'd go Gen 2 Cayman or Boxster.

Early 3.4s ones are well avoided, although I ran one for a year and was lucky to have no problems.

Can you up your budget a bit and get into a 981?

That would be my advice.

I hate convertibles, hence I own a Cayman and a Boxster was never a consideration smile

First thing that came to my mind. Either go for an earlier car with a contingency fund or a later one with a warranty?

It really is down to personal choice.

You could get a good 996 at that money, a very good 987.1 or 987.2 non S which is a mighty fine car.

Roof on or off is very personal, both are great.

Not sure it’s worrh adding more to get a 981 when the 987 is so good. I don’t they know you would lose anything which has to be a bonus. Don’t get hung up on spec, just go with what floats your boat.

Although largely the same, the differences between a roadster and a GT/Coupe are quite significant to many buyers.
Think the OP would get newer, lower mls and better value from a Cayman or Boxster than an older 911.
Both came of age with the 981, but quite a bit more money

Not sure £20k would get a 981, so you're looking at 987 models for a Cayster or an older 986 Boxster.

Fair shout, I just prefer the 981 interior.

I did love my earlier 987, it was my first Porsche and got me hooked.

Because I don't want a boxster

I haven't driven any of them but I can recommend the MX5.

Much cheaper, just as much fun, possibly more as not seen by some as a poser's car, cheaper dealer servicing and parts.

Mine's really great and you never get that 'I need a PORSCHE feeling'.

Try one.
