As a follow on from this thread Favourite Game

Got me thinking about how I got into games/what were the highlights (been playing games I reckon for nearly 40 years (If I started about 6 years old)

So my gaming history:

1970's

Early Console (likely some form of Atari/generic Pong hooked upto the TV)
Electro Mechanic shooting game that was on Lytham St Anne's Pier where you shot tanks/Jeeps as they moved around the landscape - loved it as was about 5 years old !!
Arcade games (Space Invaders/Asteroids/Battlezone/Lunar Lander) When the fair used to come to town/on holiday to Blackpool.

1980's

Playing Jet Set Willy and the like on a friends Commodore 64 (Load from Tape)
Spitfire game on the BBC Micro (used to load it up at back of the computer lab and play it/had a hide function !!)

Arcade games (Galaxian/Pacman/Laser Disc (Mach 3 being my favorite) Moon Patrol - generally anything that came into the local dingy record shop/or into the larger shiny arcade which was attached to the Snooker Club.

Nintendo - Game and Watch (Donkey Kong double screen)

1990's

Moved to London - expensive Beer and cheap women ..... wink

Arcade games in the Trocadero Centre in London
Nintendo Gameboy/Console
Atari Lynx (Fantastic/colour screen)
Playstation 1-3

PC's
Amstrad 286 with F16 Fighting Falcon) Dual 5,1/4 inch floppies (was bought for me by my parents to learn how to touch type on ....... wink
Elonex 486DX4 (100 MHz) Colour screen
Dedicated gaming PC which I wasted too much money/time and effort on.

2000's

Arcades (able now to indulge myself and have been to several arcades around the UK/USA to play the old arcade games I grew up playing/still love to this day) Absolutely love Arcade Club in Bury

Now run MAC's - so no dedicated gaming machine/but can dual boot to windows if need be - but not the latest and greatest graphics cards. Able to however play all the old Arcade games via emulators.

PS4

Has sat un-used for approx. 2 years - so think it's time to get rid of/don't watch any DVD's anymore just stream them

iPad's

Real Racing 3
Player Unknown Battleground (Probably if I can play this for at least 1hr a day)

I shudder at the thought of how much money I must have spent on H/W for the gaming PC's - probably enough over time to have bought a decent second hand sports car ......

iPad's I upgrade every 2 years - which at about £1k a go I suppose is same as buying a new PS4 every year - thankfully I use them for work/so it's a legitimate business expense/tool of my trade and useful when stuck in a hotel/airport

Started gaming at the age of 3 on my dad's Megadrive. Got a Sega Saturn and then a couple of PlayStations. Moved onto the PS2, alongside an Xbox Crystal and a GameCube. Went through the Xbox 360 and One. I now have a One X and a PS4, and I intend to have a gaming PC by the end of the year (I haven't really gamed on a PC since Soldier of Fortune came out).

As a child through to a young adult:

Atari, Spectrum ZX, NES, SNES, N64, PS2, Wii, Xbox 360, PS4

As a father:

Wii U, Switch, Dedicated PC with mostly all of above's emulated and a lot more.

I think as a father and a son we will shortly be moving onto VR.

Only counting ones bought when new:

- Parents bought a 386, but was barely powerful enough to run anything beyond, so mainly played Lemmings and random demo disks
- Original Game Boy, many happy childhood memories
- SNES as a present for passing my 11 Plus exam, still one of my all-time favourites
- Playstation 1 for Christmas when I was around 14, utterly loved it even if in honesty most games haven't aged well
- Gateway Pentium PC, forget which one but was pretty powerful for the time so got a lot of use
- Dreamcast, never really got into it and hated the controllers
- Playstation 2, although by that point I had lost interest in gaming somewhat so it was used more for DVDs than games
- Gamecube, a handful of cracking games but never truly grabbed me
- Xbox 360, reinvigorated my interest and eventually got a bit hooked to achievements
- Wii, novelty wore off very quickly
- Playstation 3, only really used it for Blu Rays
- Xbox One, carried on where the 360 left off
- Playstation 4 Pro, as I realised I was playing games for the achievements instead of for fun. Now I'm free from that, I can just play what and when I want again.

Pong.
C64
Spectrum 128
Ps1/2/3/4
Now PC.

I find the hardware and putting it together more fun than the actual gaming these days. I might do a couple of hours a week. My last ps3 and ps4s were pretty much only for Blu Rays and streaming.

The more online games get the less interested I'm becoming.

I’m 41 and my first console was the Atari 2600

After that I’ve had every single console released up to the PlayStation 2 after that I went Xbox only, I’ve even had obscure consoles like the pc engine and Neo-geo. Also had the obligatory Atari home computer, spectrums, commodore 16 and 64.
In the 2000’s got into semi pro online gaming staring with quake team arena and then Medal of Honor series, call of duty and counter strike and was very successful on MOHAA winning quite a few euro leagues, season cups and playing for the UK in the nations cup. I once missed out on an all expenses paid trip to E3 because the team competition we entered didn’t allow uk players unless playing through a certain LAN gaming Center.

Now it’s just poor reflexes, bad eyesite and playing on the Xbox. Currently sat at 140th in Europe on PUBG so happy with that.

Started with a Vic-20 and an Atari 2600. Followed this with a Commodore 64, then an Amiga 500, then a 1200. After that I had a couple of pre-built PCs, and then started building them myself and have been doing so for the past 10 years or so.

In rough order....
Pong on an early console
Vic 20
ZX Spectrum 48k
C64
ZX Spectrum 128k
Game and watch Donkey Kong etc
Then going into arcades after school really took over so I never got into Snes/megadrive etc
Sega Saturn
PS1
PS2
Sega Dreamcast
PSP
PS3
PC(Mame)
Retropie
PS4.

I loved my Saturn/Dreamcast because of the arcade titles and only went to the PlayStation in the early days because Sega made such a pigs ear of it sadly.

Jeez. Was also born in the early 70s.

I've had PCs, Playstations, a Sega Megadrive, Acorn Electrons, those little electronic games from the 80s (Scramble, Merlin, a Casio calculator with a numbers game on it that still works, goodness knows what else), played loads of Arcade Games through the years (Pit Fighter, Centipede, Sega Rally, F355 Challenge, etc). I'd be here all day if I listed every game I've played!

In order...

Nintendo (original) - was my older sisters but we all played it.

PlayStation - first console of my own. Was around 6 when it was released in 1994, not sure exactly when I got it.

N64 - Goldeneye was pretty awesome!

Sega Dreamcast - ...that's right! wasn't too many people playing these.

PS2 - probably the greatest console ever.

Xbox 360 - up there with the PS2, many many hours of gaming on this.

PS2 and Xbox 360 were my real gaming years in my teens and early 20's. After this my gaming time and interest has fallen off considerably. Hard to find the time with other commitments. I only really play racing games now.

PS4 - don't play it at all anymore.

Xbox One - still play this, although Forza is the only game I play. Mixture of Forza 7 & Horizon 3. Looking forward to 4 in the UK.
