Member name "Sardonicus" put me onto Silicone RTV, I have just used it on a sump pan and that case you are needing to seal is very much the same sort of job

Clean the surface with anything that doesn't leave behind a residue

Use the double bead method, one inside the holes and one outside the holes then join the beads with small beads at each side of each hole, now leave for 10 minutes for it to skin over and then fit

Thanks for the information.

I will remove any silicone, etc.
Clean the surfaces with brake cleaner
Then apply the double bead of RTV silicone sealer.

I will let you know how I get on. smile

Just to let you all know that I cleaned the surfaces with a "razor" blade and then fine sand paper.
Then using a scotch pad, and finally brake cleaner twice.
Used the method above, first going around the holes with RTV then joining up the holes with two or somtimes three beads.
I then left this for some minutes. after that gentley put the two parts together. waited an hour and then tighten up each bolt in a cross pattern until the desired torqure was acheived.
Wait 24hrs, before filling with diff oil again, and hey presto no leaks !!!

I hope this helps some else later on smile
