My Westfield , which I built, has a cat rattle after just 3 k miles . I took the silencer off last night and saw the cat internally move. Now. reason for the thread is to find reasons for this to fail at only 3k miles. The engine is a Honda F20c , which is standard . The ecu and map was a locked from the factory . Is there a fix or is it a case of cutting it out and replacing ? Just looking for ideas on whats best to do and no, I dont want it to be decatted, as I need it for an MOT next year.

Has it encountered standing water, or heavy rain directly onto it? Thermal shock has been known to damage the outer layer of the matrix.
It is external to the car and it can get water on it , but not standing water . It is in line with the front wheel, which is something I cant change. It is a road car, so not been hammered over track rumble strips, but it has been driven in Oxfordshire
. It has been rattling for the last 500 miles and is currently only noticeable at low idle revs , especially reversing, but suspect it will get worse. The honeycomb looks perfect when I looked at it last night, so not broken up.E-bmw said:
Where was the cat from?
Is it a good make?
i have heard anecdotal evidence of cheapies doing exactly this, especially the ceramic honeycomb type.
Full system was from Westfield as part of the kit. Is it a good make?

Pics arent superb...but quality of construction doesnt really look to justify the price.

Shouldnt take much to cut that cat out and weld a new one in

Thanks Stevie, thats spot on. I will contact them about getting a cat and get it tigg'd in. The system from Westfield is really poor for the money and welding has been done by Stevie Wonder with hiccups. If I knew what I do now, I would have gone and got a custom done.
It doesnt need TIG'd, especially when your existing one just looks MIG'dstevieturbo said:
