import Irish Car
Discussion
Hello guys please be gentle with me. Fact is as middle aged man off 74 years I find this internet not easy. Can someone please help? Fact is I have a very good 730d the first of the F01 models which I have been been unable to sell here at home in Dublin. The ad was up on Done Deal and while I did get calls Only 1 person actually came to view and this person needed finance which I am not able to do.
I found out I can obtain a vrt tax rebate 4700 euro from the Irish government if I export to the uk.
I don't know how can I sell this car in the uk
Even to place ad seems to require uk reg number
Any ideas
Thanks Jack

Here are some links to an Irish motoring forum called "Backroads". The first is the result of a search I ran myself, and the others are are links that I picked out of that search. All of the guys on there are motoring enthusiasts and many have experience of private importing / exporting cars. Have a browse and you might find something usefull. You could also advertise your car there for free.

I'm a bit rusty on this, but I think that if you have owned your car for six months or more, and you are moving permenantly to Ireland, you will not have to pay import duties. You will have to get it registered and pay whatever that costs.Other than that concession you will find that motoring is more costly in Ireland. What car were you thinking of importing?
Thanks for that. I was thinking more about buying one over there, but there is another way.....
At the moment I'm driving a fairly high mileage (90k) F11 530d. Chances are I'll get rid in the next year and replace with a G31 530d after my Uncle has run it in! Might make sense to bring that over if I'm going to be staying in Ireland for a while as my recollection is that you're only ever allowed to bring one car over and register it free of import tax. But useful to know the potential of the six-month rule.

I just had a look at an Irish price-list here:
https://www.bmw.ie/en/all-models/5-series/sedan/20...
It seems the only five series quoted there is the 520d at €53,800 (about £47,350)
It is also likely that the Irish 520d would have a poorer spec.
I think you should consider bringing in a good car that will last several years but you should also check out the insurance and the annual road tax.
