We're building a sass platform and I see everyone having 14 day trails. I initially thought this was a little too short and thought about giving a 3 month trail. Is this a bad move, is it too long?

Also Should we display prices? We are priced fairly well according to competition but just want to know people's opinions.

Cheers

Depends what it is.

You want to hook people in and make them want to stay.
Or offer a free tier with limited functions.

I'd not even trial a free product if I don't know what it was going to cost me ongoing.

Pretty much this ^^

For a trial period 30 days seems about right to me.

How are you planning on pricing: number of users, volume of transactions, time, combination of all of the above?

Difficult to answer unless you say what the product is.

I'd always recommend showing prices, and they should include VAT where applicable/appropriate.

In terms of a free trial I would always recommend offering the full features in the trial not a limited version. You want to get people "on the hook" and invested in using all of the product then they are more likely to convert.

We've listed all of the primary features on the trail. It's as good as using the platform for real.

Then we have other packages that is essentially offers more.

Its just that with 3 months worth of data and having used the platform for that long, it will be hard to leave the 'hook'.

Good question, so we offer them the full platform with no limitations or volume transitions.

Its just a matter of what features you have available and how much of our server resources we give you.

The bigger the package, the more you will need to pay.

I would imagine most people make up there minds with a trial within a few hours, possibly spread over a day or two.

If you give them a 3 months trial you're just losing revenue after users made up their minds a long time ago.

Just make sure you spell trial and SaaS correctly on the website.

Companies that aren’t opening about their pricing don’t get any business from me. 1 month trial is about right for SaaS stuff.

I agree with others about pricing. If it's SaaS then be transparent. The main point about SaaS is that it's pretty much meant to be self-service; have a trial, like the product, put in some payment details and start using.

It generally goes against the business model if you need to get sales people involved with every single sign up to go through pricing with them before they can sign up.
