I have purchased a resale car from a big dealership but have yet to collect it. In the dealership car advert photograph it showed a personalised number plate on the car which is also referred to in the details about the car. I visited the showroom and decided to buy the car subject to a few minor repairs (e.g paint chips etc) which the dealer said would take a few days to complete.
On going past the car on my way to work I noticed that the personalised plates on the car have now been replaced with date relevant ones. As I have yet to collect the car, what is the appropriate action?

Run into the dealership and whack the salesman round the head with the new plates and demand a refund.

Mainly this but also could you expand on what reference was given to the plate in the advert, how was it worded?

Often the car is photographed with the cherished plate so they can get the advert published as soon as possible even although the previous owner has put it on retention or transferred it to their new car.

If it says in the text of the advert that it is included in the sale of the car then I would certainly take it up with the sales person.

Unless the ad’ specifically states that the shown index plate is not included within the vehicle sale the sales room have goofed. See what they have to say about it.

Are you sure that it is the car that you have purchased, and not another car that is the same model and colour?

Thanks for the feedback guys! The original advert shows pictures of the car with the personalised plate. The advert wording also lists lots about the car such as engine size etc and lists the car registration number as the plate shown in the pictures. The receipt also refers to the same personalized car registration number.
I never discussed it with the salesman as I assumed it came with the car because of the advert references to it and assumed again I was right because of the car's purchase receipt also showed the same registration number.

Well they’ve fked up there, but as it isn’t their plate to give out you have two choices

1) take the car with it’s correct (age related) plate and moan about it for some discount
2) cancel the deal.

That’s literally it. Two choices.

Have you established that it is the same car?

Unless its a plate worth some money that you could have sold, it's not really a problem is it?

Sounds like it was on SoR and the owner didn't want to transfer the plates off and then back on if it didn't sell.

does it take time to remove a plate? When i saw my car at the dealership (at this point it was part of the dealer network, the car was brought over from another dealer) it had the previous owners plate on - M2 LOO. Came off for the sale.
