Hi I have halogen lights on my e91 and wish to ‘upgrade’ to some HID as I do a lot of miles and want brighter lights, what I don’t want is a chavvy looking kit that blinds everyone and I also want all the light to look the same including the rings (angel eyes?) so it’s all led light not a mix

Has anyone done this that could pint me in the right direction as I know very little about it?

Be aware that the Law is clamping down on after market HID/retro-fit xenon head lights, especially when it comes to the MOT test, with the latest MOT rules, so if you're determined to fit them, you'd better be prepared for an annual swap back to halogen's for a day to get an MOT on the car.

Which bit of the MOT do I need to look at? I have read the MOT and it says halogen can’t be modified to HID, I think this is in respect of reflector style halogen lights, mine are projector type so would retain beam pattern

If your car has projectors it will already have xenon lights. If the lights are aftermarket this would also explain why the light output is poor - fitting a HID kit will scatter the beam even worse as the cheap aftermarket headlights are rarely very effective

Agree with the above, E9x halogens are reflectors unless they are aftermarket. I'm not how far H7 led technology has progressed, but a year or so ago it was beginning to look viable and promising. Worth another look maybe?
