Living in Switzerland nowadays and im out in the middle of the country and commute to the outskirts of Zurich. I'm currently doing it via public transportation which as good as it is in this country still takes almost twice as long as driving to work and costs 340 Francs a month.

I'm looking for something fairly cheap to buy and on good on fuel, I'm taking my 2017 S3 over soon but dont really want to use it for commuting.

Kind of clueless as to what's best when it comes to this type of car.

Not sure how different models depreciate in Switzerland or what you class as cheap but for the uk, I’d get a 1 year old Renault Megane euro6 diesel with an auto box. Comfy drive for a long commute and it will sip fuel. 12k here.

Unless the commute is interesting, and you need to use the car, then, if the public transport is good, I would use that. That monthly fee sounds acceptable to avoid an additional car, with the associated depreciation, and taxes.

I3 or other Electric car? Stereotyping, but I'm guessing they are cheap to run in Switzerland? Perfect commute car alongside some thing interesting
