The good lady will be in the UK for a month, is there a better option than using Thrifty, Hertz etc for a one month car rental?

Will need a car for one month, coming out about 1500 quid plus - at this rate I'd be better buying something and then selling it after a month (could ask my brother to assist)!

Any brainwaves?

That does sound quite steep. Have you tried picking up from an airport or somewhere with big fleets and decent hire prices?

The other approach could be to ask smaller local firms. Many moons ago I had a summer-job at a local car hire place - our prices for longer hires were always negotiable, more so if business was quiet and we had too many cars.

good point, will try collection from the airport.

At these prices I;m tempted to buy something run it for a month and then sell it! Though I could do without the hassle.

Most rental companies offer something, just look at long term rather than daily rates

I rented from Heathrow for couple of weeks and was usually able to secure decent rates through different websites likes Kayak, Expedia, itp. I don't think I paid more than £400 per month. Just make sure you avoid suspiciously cheap companies like Green Motion and a few similar ones.

I’ve been using Europcar at £402 per month for a VX Astra recently ... mileage is limited to 90 per day though but that’s still a fair chunk

The in-laws went to the US last year for 5 weeks, the FIL found it so much cheaper to do 2 rentals for 2.5 weeks than one for 5. Just had to swap the car half way through.

I am just handing back a Skoda VRS to these guys: http://flexed.co.uk/

Service was spot on, I picked it up from York and drove it back to London but they're picking it up on a van tomorrow.

£399 + VAT on a 28-day rolling lease, no deposit, no maintenance etc. You have to insure.

For one month it is a bit pricey as you've got £175 set up fee and you'll get charged £50 to cancel your insurance (assuming you don't keep it for another car).

If you keep it for a few months, think it'll work out nicely.

Was a brand new car, they have some lower value cars also, email them and ask for the latest stock list.

Well they are bad but not as bad as Easirent... I had never experienced anything close to that in terms of bad customer service. I am still complaining to Holiday Auto about the fact that they directed me to that.

They often appear as the cheapest in most search engines... But you will lose HOURS at the check in desk, and you might get a car if they have not f*cked up with their fleet...

Thanks All, had a quote back from Thrifty which was 800 for the month, not great but a lot better than 1600!

That's for a 320 estate. If anyone knows of any great deals let me know.

Funny I read your thread yesterday because I am going to be in the same situation too soon. Wasn't there leasing companies doing those deals ? Arval, GLD ?

Cool, perhaps we can form a buying consortium ;-)
I will give those two a try as well.

For a month come on. There are lots of choice and will cost a hell of a lot less.

My criteria, is it has to be a 4 or 5 door (19 month old) but I quite like the idea of a Focus RS.
Anyone know of somewhere I could hire one for a month?
