Needed a new car for my wife/family car and liked the look of these so drove a couple, found them really nice so started looking at a couple.
Really wanted a grey one and luckily a couple came up at a dealer a mere 90 miles away so had a look and a drive.
One was 2015, a t2 which is a 2.0 120 BHP petrol turbo. Nice and torquey but no cruise control.
Other was a 2014 T3 which is the 150BHP 1.6 Ford turbo but with a higher spec such as cruise Control, heated seats etc. Both had circa 20k on the clock and other than the above, were identical.
Driving them, I found the T2 a bit pokier to a point but was all done by 5k revs and wasn't keen on the noise, a bit dieselly albeit not loud.
So I preferred the T3 for spec and engine reasons and I have to say, it's a lovely car. Really well built, good spec, nice to drive. We did a 1,000 mile trip averaging 45mpg so impressive economy too.
In terms of the car it's replaced, it's a 1.8petrol civic which is still a nice car and now for station and dump duties. It's interesting comparing the two. The Ci ic is roomier and feels a bit sharper to drive in some respects such as throttle response and steering, clearly a much lighter car but is very noisy in comparison. Also, still good economy, recently did a little road trip and the OBC said 52mpg. How accurate it is I don't know!

I paid just under 13k for it. Possibly a bit high for the age but it's in perfect condition, low mileage plus T3s are relatively hard to come by.
We love it. So good on a long journey, comfortable, good stereo, really good A/C and as I've waffled on about, good economy too. Goes OK, nice gearbox.

i had a V40 D2 for the past 5 years (company car)
loved the little thing, well put together and a lovely place to be
i did 120,000 miles in that time and apart from needing tyres and brakes nothing went wrong and it never ever needed any work.
it did eat rear brakes though but i put this down to lots of cruise control use and it using the rear brakes to slow the car down

I've got a V40 D3 Cross Country and I love it. Coming from a C30, the boot seems huge and I can open the doors without needing a spare parking place next to me ! They do seem to be nicely specced even as standard. Mine is the Lux Nav, so has a 7" screen with a decent sound system too. The theatre lighting kept me amused for a few dark nights as well

It's using the rear brake on one side during cornering.Motortrend did a piece on it for the Fiesta st (last gen) if I remember right.

Bit of an update, still very happy with it and just had it serviced which was 90k service or 5 years albeit miles are a fraction under 29k.
Interestingly they provided a 2018 T3 cross country which isn't my cup of tea in terms of jacked up soft roader style but it was far smoother than ours and with the more modern 2.0 turbo loads quicker.
Really good engine the 2.0. Far pokier than the numbers would suggest or maybe our one is less poker!

Small update a year on, still very impressed with the V40.
Delighted actually.
Had a small amount of warrant work done as drivers folding mirror was slow and this is the only black mark as Volvo made it difficult to resolve. But done now so all good.
I love how effortless it feels on the motorway, nice and quiet and responsive when needed.
Amazing economy too. On a recent trip we covered over 120 miles yet we still had 585 miles left on the range. Incredible.
Interestingly when I had some service work done they lent me a brand new V40 Cross country. I think it was another T3 but a different engine to mine. That was very quick. So much quicker than our one. Also much softer than mine although I hate the fake off roader look myself. It was nice though to drive.
