My 3 year warranty is coming up to expiry and MOT is also due

My car is booked into BMW for a warranty repair next week - should i also ask them to MOT it? That way if anything under warranty needs to be repaired it would make things easier

Or are BMW less likely to point out warranty related repairs - is there a conflict of interest?

You should be able to get an 'End of Warranty' check FOC, which is specifically for cars coming up to their first MOT.

It's offered on the via the BMW service website.

You should be able to get your car MOT’d whilst you are getting your cars warranty work done.

BMW ended up having my car for 3 days when my warranty ended to work on my cars rattles and the MOT

Some Dealers don't have an MOT bay - they have a "tame" garage round the corner. Don't know if it would make a difference.

Definitely get the MOT done before the warranty expires then you'll be able to (in theory) get anything it fails on sorted under the warranty.

Thanks - it’s booked in for a end of warranty check as suggested - I didn’t even know this existed!

I just had my 435i come to the end of its warranty and had to have the brake fluid changed anyway so got them to do the MOT as well. Amazed to discover the MOT was free !! It passed too which was nice.

Lucky blighter...I had the brake service done (plus front pads and blooming discs, ouch) and I got charged £52 (from memory) for the test plus £40 to adjust headlamp alignment. It would be nice to see a bit more consistency.

I always check my cars over before MOT, basically tyres, bulbs etc., but I cannot fully check headlamp alignment. I always ask my MOT garage to check alignment at and before the MOT. I have never been charged for it.

Yep... They tried to call me to check I was OK to go ahead with it, but I was i a meeting and couldn't answer. Apparently if they hadn't gone ahead I woudl have had to take it for a retest. I didn't see anything wrong with the alignment before or any benefit since!

It’s not very well known, but if you have service inclusive plus, then it includes something call MOT protect that covers anything that causes your MOT to fail (even if the MOT is not carried out by a dealer) as long as it’s not a wear and tear item (tyres, brakes etc) until your car is 5 years old (even if it is over the 50,000 mile limit for service inclusive plus).

The car actually has to fail it’s MOT before BMW will cover it. You cannot preempt it.
