My top tip - Live underground

Consider buying or building an underground home. Sure, you might not get much sunlight, but that’s a small trade-off to have your very own naturally cool hobbit house.

Don't travel with Govia Thameslink trains (No aircon in a carriage with no opening windows yesterday, finally stepping off after an hour journey into 28deg heat was like stepping into a fridge)

Really?

How to stay cool in the heat. Buy a specialist piece of equipment that keeps you cool during hot weather.

Let me know where I missed the brief.

One overlooked benefit of solar panels is that when it is hot, and in addition to generating electricity, your house is cooler than if they were not there!

Underground structures trap heat, so the air will need to be extracted and exchanged with cooler air..

That's why the tube is fking unbearable in temperatures like this.

Swim here every day for 10 days.

Could be tricky if you’re not on holiday in the Ardèche.

Ummmm..... yes and no.....

Underground structures tend to stay at a constant temperature throughout the year, and when the tube was built it was quite cool all year round. Hot countries build houses underground for this very reason - Coober Pedy, Afghan tunnels etc.

But 100 years of heat generation in the tunnels from all the trains and people has warmed the clay around the tunnels which is a good insulator of heat, and even in winter the soil doesnt cool down much.

So if you lived underground and didnt generate huge amounts of heat then you'd stay quite nice and cool.

^Top tip! laugh

Run around like a maniac, the breeze will cool you down. When you start sweating, the evaporative effect combined with the breeze will cool you down even more.

Come to my office, it's chuffing chilly.
Get some odd looks putting on a pullover to go into work and take it off to go outside!
