Is there anything stopping me parking large car or van infront of a speed trap, obscuring it's view, just to say, have my lunch?

If someone was to come out of the van and ask me why I was parked, my preferred response would be, "because I'm having a break and I hate you", similarly is there anything illegal about that?

Would they just turn the camera off, and be happy to enjoy their enforced break?

In Scotland if it makes a difference.

Cheers,
PP

As long as you're legally parked no. Although you will come across as one of those sad FOTL type characters... Especially if you run up to the window videoing it.

This really doesn't bother speed camera operators, they just move elsewhere or park where no one can legally block their view. Simple really

It's one of those situations where you really think you're "sticking one up to the man" and "annoying people, so much" when I fact you aren't, nobody really cares and the life for the camera operator will go on without missing a beat.
If it makes you feel better however, go for it - a smile a day and all that.

Do you sit at 70mph in the outside lane too, because that's the speed limit?

Anybody know how the story ended, what happened to Glen Southern?

I dunno:

2 minutes for camera operator waiting for you to move
1 minute spent rolleyes @ OP
2 minutes closing the hatch, getting in driving seat, planning next destination
5 mins driving there
2 mins setup to recommence enforcement

Assuming that the operator will be finishing their shift @ 5pm 'whatever', that's 12 minutes lost enforcement time. Average of 1 speeding offence recorded every 5 mins (probably conservative) & he's saved the general public £200 in fines. Pretty good karma redemption ratio for merely choosing your lunch in a convenient spot biggrin

I've always found a certain disprespect for authority to be perfectly healthy personally.

I think it's a bit tragic that someone would instantly assume I have to be some sort of angry, demented, mouth breather, to have a sense of humour about these things. I don't like speed cameras, but not some sort of weird vendetta, it's just a bit of mischief to pass the time. I might even be carrying out a public service apparently. laugh

As for the camera operate thinking I'm "sad", well, obviously as a speed camera operator we're unlikely to agree on what constitutes a good use of ones time anyway. I'll not lose any sleep over it.

It's going to have to be a big one to block the camera.

If you have Twitter, have a look at https://twitter.com/WMP_CEU they often deal with people doing it.

What, you mean everyone is just a virtue signaling pussy these days?
OP - you park your van in front of a speed camera van. Make their life just that little bit more difficult.
As long as you're parked legally - there is bugger all they can do except move on to another spot.
If you do this - thank you.

As for the twitter feed, that is one of the most tragic things I've seen, I hope it isn't coming out of my taxes.

I agree, they shouldn't be pissing about on Twitter or Facebook. Those places are the mainstay of dimwits and losers, or pretentious prats with Twitter as well. Quite what they think they are achieving, bar lowering themselves to the same level, is a complete mystery to me.
Par for the course I suppose.

I thought there was no such concept as "legally parked"? Only that it's not illegal.

Cop can always do you for obstruction even if there's no specific restriction.

That post suggests a fundamental misunderstanding of the British Constitution. In the UK, everything is lawful unless it is specifically rendered unlawful by legislation or by a recognised rule of the common law.

PS: before anyone who has read too many FOTL websites starts, there is no difference between unlawful and illegal.

I've heard that flying a George Cross flag from your car during the world cup is illegal.

If you put it on upside down, that is unlawful too.

If you then park in front of a camera van with said upside down flag flying, the law says you can be sent back in time and transported to Australasia. On a raft.

You should get your facts straight before you post.

People will suffer due to your ramblings.
