Has having security clearance helped your career?

Hello folks

I work in IT and for the past 8 months, I have gone through security vetting. This is the first time I have had to go through security clearance, and I am genuinely interested to find out from others who have done the same, has it positively affected your career?

I know the ins and outs of what I can and can't do now, but I haven't spoken with anyone who shares the same level of clearance. My employer isn't relevant here and I won't disclose who they are.

I had searched for other threads and others had mentioned that level of clearance.

All my roles have needed clearance. No it doesnt make a difference apart from the fact if you have attained it in the past on your CV there should be nothing lurking in the background.
The type of work i do, if you are going with US firms who pay up to x3 as much as UK/Euro firms, any managerial or supervisor role requires US clearance which is a easy way of employing US citizens only.

I work in IT. When I look at the job ads, I'd say there is a fairly high percentage of roles where you must already have clearance so it must only be a good thing as you're not automatically excluded from applying for those roles.

Can it help your career? Possibly - you might be the only person in your organisation with the ability to talk to 'the customer'. If your role is slightly obscure and not immediately replaceable, then it can cement things further.

Just because a role requires clearance doesn't mean that the things you do are actually interesting!
