Hi what type ride would you expect with 400 lb springs on the front in areas with poor roads even set up more to the soft side ?

Roads are terrible these days and I want a bit of comfort .

Im seriously thinking of fitting the standard 325lb springs back ion the front

and slightly upgrade the rear l to 275lb .

Any thoughts because other than being a bit soft at the rear the car drove with the same comfort has ordinary family type cars .

Can stiffer springs like 400lb on the front perfectly setup give me that level of comfort ?

I have 400s on the front, yes they're stiffer but still comfortable. I tour in the car and have done NC500 twice with them. The stiffer springs reduce pitching under braking and on rough terrain.

I've got 275s on the rear, imo they're slightly soft when working with the stiffer fronts

daz one of your main problems is your 17in wheels and the low profile tyres if you could come up to 16s if not the 15 fronts over your brakes and a taller tyre would transform the ride i have just gone from 50 section toyos on my wedge to 60 section which was the original spec and it has ironed out all the little ripply bits much better tyres are now rain expert uniroyals must say quite impressed.

I thought Daz was on Rainsports?

I’m on 215/45/17 on RS3 and combined with old Koni shocks are the best combo I’ve had incl 2 sets of new after market shocks I’ve now sold!

The springs on the Koni fronts are longer than the after market shocks and do offer better damping on smaller sharpe bumps on my car by a long way.
If your steering wheel vibrates over bumps then it’s too hard.

My car reminded me of what it must be like to drive a slammed car about and I was getting totally fed up with it.
Instantly better and more sophisticated is how I see it and I have no steering bvibration, small bumps are soaked up instead of coming right through the chassis.
So for me the answer is yes softer works much better on country lanes to motorways.
But a lot of this is the tyres. I was ready to go back to smaller wheels but now 17’s are sound with these tyres and shocks.
Well happy as it took 6 years of messing about to go back to stock shocks!

I'd agree with that, I'm running 16" Spiders with Toyo T1Rs so my 400lb front springs benefit from the softer T1R sidewalls and the extra wall height

I am running rain sports with 16" wheels 205/50/16 tyres ,so I have big walls on the tyres .

Nitron told me that going up 75lb the valving will more than cope with the increase so no need to change .

I had none of this with the 325 springs on the front .

Are the rear shock absorbers longer on the back .

Daz, Try - 225 lb springs on the REAR, 325 lb springs on the FRONT and set Nitrons to soft settings on rear Road Use only (old bloke settings for comfort).

Daz either your getting old or you have a bad back scratchchin I run Gaz Mono's with 450 fr and 400 rr springs and 16's all round and have no complaints yes its harder than the new old stock Billies and Eibach springs I had on previously but for out and out handling and feed back I would not change a thing, I never think I wish I had the old kit fitted I have had this set up for over 2 years now and your get up Nitrons etc are better quality than my Mono's so I am confused.com

I will send the front ones in to Nitron to get them checked over .When I soften them up they seem to bouncy ,the front ends Bob's up and down to much almost like it's making a big deal out of nothing .

Looks like you need to take a trip down to "Guglielmi Motorsport Ltd" (Daventry), he's the suspension guru ex Tuscan Racer etc.

The roads in south northants are quite rough!

If the spring has the same spacing of the coils over its whole length then no.
If the coils get closer together at one end then that is the top.

What made you only have a 50lb difference between front and rear ?
