Who is the ISP?. If its BT drop me a email and I will send you the settings. I have a linksys ADSL Router as well. Even if it is not BT the settings will probably be very similar.

Set PC's to DHCP and they should be off

Check they can ping each other and the router. It could well be a firewall thing. You can safely turn them off while you are behind the firewall to allow you to figure out where the prob is.

Also check your proxy settings are empty on Firefox/IE.

you may also have to log into the router and put your adsl account username/password in if you have one

Im with Pipex . Ive got a bit that says about advanced settings if using a router with primary and secondry DNS numbers
Also a number for VPI and VCI
Framing
Mode
Protocol
On ip address it just says supplied by dhcp server
and host is N/A
So im guessing ive got the info i need , its just where it needs to go on what ..... now where's the pimms

Dennis, I am having EXACTLY the same problem, I can get my two puters to talk to each other through the wireless network, but it falls down when i try and get my Router to connect to the net. If you get it sorted let me know how you managed it

I am also on Pipex

Is there a 'Status' option in the control panel for the router ? This should show the 'Online Status'.

Would be worth checking that the router is actually connected to the 'net before turning your attention to the PCs.

Focus is good mate, apart from some nicking the badge

I've managed to hook everything up but pipex doesn't want to let my router connect. Really bloody annoying, £120 on networking equipment which isn't doing what it is supposed to do.

If the Cold Chisel doesn't work, Size 12's are pretty effective.

Try this... where you put the username just put

startup_user@startup_domain

Exactly as entered with no password

If it connects, there's a problem with your account details. It's not unheard of by a long shot. It's entered in the basic setup IIRC.

If that works, at least you know it's all plugged together correctly. If not, use the big hammer to "seat" the cables

The router is a firewall.....

If you want to test your vulnerabilities, go to www.grc.com and find shields up. Let is scan your PC (It's perfectly safe) and it'll tell you whether or not you're protected.

You should only need the firewall on when you are on an insecure or unknown network. Behind the firewall, it's superflous.
