Hi guys,

I've read several times on pistonheads that a car checked by David Batty seems to be a good car. He also seems to search used cars for customers?! I'd like to know what you all know about him, where he has his expertise from and if a dealer is saying "all his cars in stock have to been checked by him" (as Adrian Blyth is saying on his web page) does it really stands for good quality cars? Thanxx!

Just my two pennys worth :

1. If and I stress If David has checked the car then you are probably pretty safe, I have used him for about 3 years now on my Chimaera (and my mums porsche) and he really does know his stuff, he is an old style mechanic and only does what needs doing first class.

2. David is also a real gent, nicer guy you couldnt hope to meet.

3. "dealer is saying "all his cars in stock have to been checked by him" (as Adrian Blyth is saying on his web page) does it really stands for good quality cars?

No this is not true prior to sale anyway, david as far as I am aware just does adrians mechanical work after he has sold the cars.

IMHO
1. either buy privatley save your self a few quid and get David to check the car prior to purchase

2. Buy from a main dealer with a warranty and come back

3. Buy from a reputable specialist i.e. Fernhurst or the like

AB has been in business quite a few years - known for dealing in Porkers and the like many years ago and TVRs and "Loti" (pl. of Lotus?) more recently.

Everyone in business has a complaint for time to time - are you saying this is beyond reasonable?

DB - top man! No more to say really.

I heard stories about pretty much every dealer and every independent. Caveat emptor or whatever the phrase is.

...and as for David Batty, suffice to say he's running high in nominations for the customer care awards at this year's PistonHeads awards!

Fair points all round.

(Gosh this is a very "fair" thread!)

We all form our own opinions, for what it's worth I'd buy again from AB, with a high degree of confidence and in preference to a numbe rof main dealers, not just because of price.

I recognise that I've been very lucky with 28,000 miles of pretty happy TVR ownership. Especially in comparison to some of the threads ranging from horror stories to persistent moans and gripes. Guess we all have different expectations of these people, too.

Have to say I found AB to be very straight and the service felt excellent. The car prep work was done by Andy at AMP - and that combination is very assuring.

But agree that we are all entitled to feel highly focused on the fact that we pay large sums of cash for our dream cars and supplier 'reputation' is what makes them the extra margins. It follows that reputations should be open for debate. It would be useful to know what the basis of any complaints is.

I'll get off my fence now.

Pip pip.

David Batty for a PistonHeads award? I'll second that!!
Top man, is all I can say! He's been servicing me (well, my chimaera anyway) for a year or so. First rate and a top bloke.
I can't imagine David attaching himself to anyone unless he was convinced of their reputation. AB is one of the good guys, I hear.

He gets my vote too. Most excellent customer service and goes out of his way to help. He's looked after my S and now the Chimaera.

Took my car down only last Friday and he sorted it there and then, having just fixed something for another customer who dropped by. I wish there were more of him around.

I will definitely buy my next TVR from Adrian Blyth, service I got from him was probably my best car buying experience ever. And Dave Batty gets my service vote...

Many thanks for your prompt replys, guys! Unless there are some concerns of several dealers including AB, it sounds to be very important to get in contact with Mr Batty. Has anyone his number? Where actually is he living to get an idea where I could hopefully show him my choice...

I have voted for him too - I think you have to send nominations to Ted through this:

Regarding Adrian Blyth and alleged complaints from trading standards, I've looked into this and it's simply not true.

Please, please check your facts before maligning someone's business. Just becuase you heard it down the pub, from a mate or from someone else in the business does not mean it's true.

Adrian Blyth has not received any complaints from trading standards.
