I have 3mm of rear brake pads left and the discs are also due for replacement but the dashboard light has not alerted me, rather the garage did when I had the car serviced.
Both my BMW indie and BMW main agent (when the car went in for the recall) alerted me.
My question is at what point should the sensor alert me on the dashboard? Thanks.

What mileage is showing remaining on the rear pads?

I've had experience where the idrive/cbs said 6k to go, then within the space of one 70 mile (admittedly spirited) drive it went down to less than 1000 - I assume that was when the sensor took over, rather than the computer.
The pads were worn, but not terminally so.

However, save the worry and get them changed (at the Indy) as it's not a lot of money, as when the sensor hits, the countdown will go rapidly.

ALWAYS change the sensor, (one per axle) even if it looks new, it will save a lot of trouble as they are sesnitive to breaking shortly after a pad change.

Thanks for reply, tbh it was a case of my curiosity regarding the dashboard light. Just had both front dampers replaced at the BMW indi (£468) next month it will be the rear brake discs and pads with new sensor same indi quoted me £268 all in.

I’m still trying to work out how to use the OBC redface

It's not too hard to do yourself. Did the rear discs and pads on my E87 for no more than £100

Change the hand brake shoes also (additional small expense) otherwise your just doing half a job they harden in use and break-up/de-laminate with age and use and will be paired with the probably rusty and rough disc inner surface currently fitted frown do it once do it right smokin

Thanks, that sounds like good advise, I will also have a look at the DIY video clips to see if I can manage DIY.

I’ve just bought some filthy cheap discs pads and sensor to swap out tomorrow.
2 hours, £59.
