Hi guys got a puzzle
Car is Audi a4 yr 2000 4 speed auto 100k on clock.
Symptom is the car intermittently locks in 4th at cruising speed.Sometimes locks ok sometimes not.
When not locked under load revs increase without noticeable road speed increase and car tries again as it were.
Wondering if it is torque converter leaking pressure ?
Another thing going down hill in 4th car freewheels - is this normal ?

Sounds fked to me.

You may be able to diy an oil change and see if that helps but auto box problems are normally one for a specialist.

Thx. Done the oil change and filter but no change.

I have the same gearbox in my Passat (it's st, isn't it?) Can't help with the locking in gear, but...

... mine does the same so could be normal
