Discourteous people make me grumpy
Discussion
Not a proper rant but more a grumble.
I'm selling some old wardrobes. Had them in the garage since we moved house so thought I might as well get rid for the sake of space and make a bit of cash at the same time. They are from Ikea so nothing too fancy. RRP new £150 each. I'm selling two, £80 each or £150 for both. V good condition. All bits included etc. They are both disassembled and ready to go.
Listed on Gumtree on Thursday. Had some interest both via text and also email.
First person who contacted me was given first refusal. They expressed their interest Thursday evening via text and were keen to purchase and collect this weekend. After a bit of to-and-fro via text (they needed a bit of chasing - probably a yellow flag), we arranged for them to come today at 10am to collect.
I've moved my cars around on the drive so it would be easy for them to park next to the garage and get the wardrobes transferred to their car.
They are now over an hour late. No text or call to explain why the no show (or why running late). Quite discourteous and disappointing.
Perhaps they forgot? Perhaps they went to church? Perhaps they are hung over after yesterday's football? Perhaps they are just rude?
I wouldn't mind if they had a change of heart and on reflection they decided they didn't want them. That's fair enough. That's life. A text last night or even this morning would have been quite sufficient. However, no contact is very poor form. I have no desire to sit about waiting for them. I don't think I'm being unreasonable.
For all the fuss, associated bother and only for £150, it's easier to just take the wardrobes to the tip and be done with it rather than have to deal with discourteous people. I don't think I have the time or patience for this malarkey. Suffice to say, I am disappoint.

I even get dicked about by people on freecycle. (can you save it for me? will your 4 seater sofa fit in my fiat 500? can you deliver?)
But you also meet some genuine people, bloke collecting non working dishwasher roof down in MX5 on a wet and windy Jan night wanted the solenoids and valves for some sort of eco project. Lady who fostered children wanted settee for playroom reckoned kids would kill it in circa 6 months.
My rule of thumb is not to respond to txt spk and any sign of dicking about to cease all communication. Next door neighbourhood thingy seems to work ok.

We suffered the same with Freecycle. Parasites who wanted you to deliver, one couple asked for payment seeing as they were travelling so far (3miles). Worst was a plumber who turned up for an old boiler, he started dismantling it on the driveway saying he didn’t need all of it. He was soon told to f

Standard I'm afraid, people are rude and discourteous; I work in car sales, the amount of people who book an appt and then don't show or who appear late is very high, no phone call no email, they just don't turn up or appear when they fancy it.
I've even checked the evening before that they are coming; "yep we'll be there", for them not to appear and not even call or email to let me know.

I listed a Thule Tow Bar bike rack on Gumtree. I bought on offer from Tesco Direct about 5 years previously. They were about £180 and I bagged it for £99. After some house renovation it got lost in the garage under a load of other stuff. In the meantime I completely forgot I bought it and bought an Atera bike rack.
I had a major tidy up and I found it. Brand new, still in box, and everything in packaging. I looked at the online price £220 and figured £120 was OK - with £20 haggle room and I'd break even. First call was a foreign chap (cue PH Xenophobia), polite but very haggly and insistent that the wires would be rotten so £70 was fair. I looked at the rack and the wires and rubber were perfect and brand new - the garage being cool and completely dry. I stood firm at £120. Alarm bells should have rung but I wanted rid of as much stuff asap. He came around that evening, inspected it, and saw nothing was wrong, and asked me to build it with him. Not something I wanted to do but he was here etc etc. It took 1.5 hours to build during which he regaled me with his tales of buying everything cheap cheap cheap. But was really pissed me off was that he pocketed my 8 and 10mm spanners from my set. He asked if I could include the spanners in the deal earlier on and I said no. It was the inconvenience of losing the most common spanner sizes until I got replacements.
The guy wanted the bike rack for a trip to a Haven holiday and I fully expected him to contact me after the holiday to ask for a refund, so I pre-empted this and blocked his number.

We're in the process of clearing a relative's house (they have moved into care, permanently). We tried to do the right thing and put a few items on Freecycle, or the local Facebook groups (again, we didn't want any money) but the hassle and time-wasting cretins we encountered were beyond belief.
Example: a tumble dryer. "I'll bring it back if it doesn't fit in my kitchen", and "I need it delivered" (we'd said collection only), and "I'll be there at ten in the morning" which of course they weren't. Oh yes, and "wots yr best price?"........it's free you moron!
I suppose it's a mix of stupidity and bad manners, but sadly, we'll now just take stuff to the tip unless it has substantial value.

They are now almost 8 hours late. On the balance of probability, I think it's safe to assume they are a no show. Still no texts of explanation.
I've not sent them a text to convey my opinion on the situation.

I've used Gumtree previously with good success.
Firstly as a buyer after a fridge/screwdriver incident and the subsequently selling it on to a guy who needed an under the table fridge for his home brewing.
I've contacted the other interested individual and we're going to arrange for something later this week. Unfortunately they only want one of the wardrobes rather than both.
Anyone interested in an Ikea Brusali wardrobe?

If they ever actually do turn up, douse the wardrobes timewasters in petrol and set fire to them while stating that they're no longer available.
With a slight alteration, plan sounds perfect.

I considered Freecycle but read plenty of stories of chancer/time wasters. Plus, always nice to make some pocket money. But you also meet some genuine people, bloke collecting non working dishwasher roof down in MX5 on a wet and windy Jan night wanted the solenoids and valves for some sort of eco project. Put a bench and weights up on scumtree. Very keenly priced, got about 10 emails in 2 hours. Agreed to sell to the first chap. Told him he could collect at weekend as I wasn't around. Kept hassling me as to when I could pick it up. When I finally got in touch when I was available, to use a modern expression, he "ghosted" me. f
king prick. No wonder people dread selling stuff.
Then I've just put some old RAM on ebay, a guy who had no feedback won the auction. Unsurprisingly didn't get paid, all attempt at contact ignored. What is the point?? The human race is being held back by
