Hopefully a quick query to see if anyone has done this.

My 12 months subscription to Deezer which came with the car has run out and looking at the BMW website they want £160 a year for it. However, Deezer is only £9.99 a month and the BMW site seems to intimate that if you have a Deezer Premium account anyway you can just log in in the car (although my app now seems to have vanished from the iDrive).

So can I subscribe to Deezer for £120 a year and then just log in once I've figured out why the app has disappeared or do I have to go through BMW and pay an extra £40 a year to get it back on the iDrive?

Cheers

R1 Dave

I’ve got a 2016 M140i with basic nav and it has various apps on it as standard. I only use Spotify but I know it has Amazon music and a few other things on there too. I’ve just checked and Deezer is also there.

You need to pay for it via BMW. It's because you're also paying for the data as well as Deezer.

That's brilliant thanks for that. I thought the fact the BMW site states you can use an existing account was strange due to the data issue but at least that clarifies it.

An existing Deezer premium customer here. Got a 2011 cooper s which has bluetooth streaming and phone works well with this, doesn't seem to use a great deal of data and total monthly use less than 1 gb per month which is well inside my phone monthly limit. So if you've got plenty of spare data on phone can't see point of paying BMW an extra £40/year for something that you don't need.
You can also download any Deezer albums/tracks/playlists etc direct to your phone (free on your home wifi) so no need to use any data at all if your well organised.

I have the app installed on my phone but it's so much easier having the app on the car so you can use the iDrive instead of having to use your phone. £40 a year isn't exactly a fortune and it's worth it in my opinion.

Is deezer different to Spotify then? I use Spotify on my 3 series. There is a built in app on the headunit that detects the phone app and allows you to navigate playlists/albums/do a content search etc no need to subscribe via connected drive

Deezer uses your car's data connection rather than your phone, and is (in my experience) far less flakey than the Spotify app connection.
