Just over a week ago, while riding the PDS in Morzine, I came off my bike and hit the deck, my lower chest area hit the handlebars with a bit of force, however due to the adrenaline I dismissed it and carried on. Also my brother had a very bad fall, hospitalised with broken ribs and dislocated shoulder, so my injuries were minor!

I am not entirely sure I have bruised the rib but it is not getting any better. Getting up in the mornings I feel it the most and trying to sleep on a side does not give me pain. Those that maybe have suffered this, how long does this last for? Going to see my doctor today, pretty sure they will say just rest and take some Ibuprofen, which I have been doing on and off..

Recently recovery from this. Took around 4/5. Weeks with mix of codeine in day and ibuprofen atnight. And vitamin d as someone said it helps bones repair themselves.

Not much you can do, rest up, take pain relief, don't sneeze.

I hit my ribs on my handlebars when I hit a pothole at 40km/h earlier in the year and it took about six weeks to recover. First couple of weeks I couldn't ride as breathing hurt. The worst was the constant waking up in the night when I moved.

5-6 weeks before I was pain free after bashing a couple of ribs earlier this year. Sleep and mornings were the worst times.

Didn't bother with seeing the Dr as they don't do anything for bruised/fracture ribs anyway.

I'm just over 3 weeks in following a karting incident (I see why they sell rib protectors.)...and I'm off the pain killers, it's now only tender if I press against it or stretch in particular ways. I seemed to get worse for the first 2 weeks, before it stated to get better.

Coughing and laughing also not recommended.

Bust a few earlier in the year: first three weeks were utter hell , probably took another 5-6 to get back to vaguely normal.

Do not sneeze.
Do not cough. And at the same time DO cough: it’ll shift out the muck that, if left unchecked, can increase the risk of a chest infection. Manky chest and broken ribs are a combination I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy frown
Do not sneeze.
Do not thump them against the edge of the desk in the office.
Do not sneeze.
Do not wake up and leap out of bed thinking they’re fine.
Do not sneeze.

I speak from bitter, painful experience

It’ll hurt but try and take 10 deep breaths over the course of the day to clear your deadspaces and reduce infection risk.

It is possible you've damaged your intercostal muscles. Worth a Google. Painful and slow yo recover. Good luck.
