Hi all,

I don't know if anyone remembers my 1994 blue-black W124 wagon, well it never sold so my stepdad is running it for a bit as his lease car came to an end (and he had one back in the day - I'm curious to see whether the old W124 can convert him back to the ways of the true barge).

It's got an annoying intermittent fault where the fuel pump does not prime on ignition (no hum from the offside rear) and when it does that, the engine will turn and turn but the car will not start.

Any clues as to how to go about troubleshooting this as he does not have a decent specialist near him. It probably does it about once a week and will generally start 5-60 minutes later for no apparent reason.

I'll post this in the MB section as well but if there is a 'go to' place on the web for W124 queries, please do let me know!

Cheers and many thanks in advance,

Joel

With any starting issue on a W124 my first port of call would always be the overvoltage protection relay.

Could be the fuel pump relay, under a plastic cover behind the battery.

If Bury isn't too far for you then I'd suggest THIS PLACE.

Whilst advertising both BMW and Mercedes, I happen to know that the owner served his time on Mercedes of that era and understands them and their little foibles pretty well.

I've no connection as such but he has done a good few jobs on my little 190 and I've certainly no complaints. smile
