i'm seriously contemplating building my first kit car instead of taking the easy route and buying one, and after quite alot of thinking ive decided that i prefer the fisher fury to the caterfield type car. i was just wondering if anyone had any views on them at all? how they rate them? anyone built one? im probably going to use a toyota 4age in it if i build the car

many thanks
charlie.

Cash flow and a new house meant I only got as far as a test drive (well I was test driven). I got taken out in the multicoloured demonstrator thats done a couple of Liege-Rome-Liege Rallies and it didn't squeak have a 2l Pinto and no lid. Oh yes and it stuck to the road like glue round the Kent country lanes and went pretty well aswell.

If only I had the cash. Have you considered its twin - the SSC Stylus?

I've been in several and I've got to say I'm impressed as I'm building one myself. It is a Caterham/Westfield/Striker in chassis design but is lighter than the Caterham and well proven on the track.

Some detail on my build plans at:

I've got an R1 engine in the garage ready to go in it.

I have a Stylus.
Used to own a Westfield.

The Westfield was an easy build. Body is gel coloured so just bolt bits on and drive away.

The Stylus (I assume fury is same) needs bonnet, boot & doors (pain) bonded & fudged about. Fiberglass deseamed ect. Then sprayed. Chassis is similar to 7's so not much difference in mechanics. Screen to be bonded in (mine had to be cut 1" to fit).

So build time takes a lot more time & money.

Driving. I sold the Westfield after a wet summer. The screen is flat - so lots of buffeting. If the roads wet, your wet.
I cant comment yet on the Stylus as Iv only driven to the SVA plus 4 laps on a track day. the screen is curved so not quite as much bufferting - well no where near in actual fact. Cant comment on handeling & performance yet but I expect them to be simmular.

Good luck have fun.
Kevin

also. My experiance when dealing with Westfield was not pleasent. They were in the market of selling bits & collecting money.
I have had occasion to deal with Pete (former Stylus owner) & Tim (current owner)and found them both very helpful in contrast, even out of hours.

I'm pretty sure that the Fury, and I thought the Stylus, can be bought with a gel coat finish so it doesn't need spraying. Doesn't mean that it doesn't need coaxing into place though.

I love Furies. End of story!

Definately looking to build one in the next couple of years when I get out of uni and start earning. For the money, there's not a lot a lot else that goes as well *and* looks as sexy.

Timbob, you and me both mate. I recently sold a rather smart MGB that I'd been running while at uni and that wasn't the cheapest option.

Current wish list would be any one of:

Stratos
Cobra
Ultima
Fury
Stylus
D-type
C-Type

Just off to bump off a bank or a rich relative ......

cheers for all the views guys!

im pretty sure im going to start building one alongside my engineering degree and use all my student loan on the car!!! (thats what its there for isnt it??)

i had quite a long list of cars that i was interested in and in the end it came between a stirker and the fury and i felt the fury looked better so it looks like thats where im going to go
