anyone no the best place to order a starter motor from
for me to fit myself
preferably one that works when the engine is hot
i no you can get one thats upgraded cant find it on the search
oh and how much are we looking at

By putting a relay "back" in the circiut ensures max voltage to "throw" the solenoid when its a bit hot and sticky. Range Rover have it, TVR not. Many have done it, all but a few not cured, i have details to mail out, or BB.s web site has details.

Fitted Verso Shield to my chim. Only costs about £40 from Demon Tweaks. Comes with velcro fastner and is big enough to wrap round the motor. Reflects over 1000 degs. Peter

Has anyone experienced any issues with these Prestolite starters....?

That seems a good price, might get one as I'm getting the old sticking starter when cold syndrome.

AFIK, there has been only 1 unsatisfied report of the Prestolite (well theres always one). Most seem to report that it fires up a lot better than than the original.

Relay modding the Chim is a doddle. If you pop the dash you will find a spare relay socket in the aux relay panel (6 sockets - only 5 wired normaly). Within the wiring to other relays are ground and live connections, the red wire for the heated seats mirrors is an ideal candidate. Just underneath behind the steroe is the loom connector to the engine bay, where the starter white/red wire can be intercepted. The relay receptacle just needs push in female blades with latches, and two link wires to the existing pos & neg in adjacent receptacles.

I added an extra link to the relay by the boot opener switch, so that after allowing the immob to kick in I can then crank the engine to restore oil pressure if its been standing. I actually pull the boot opener switch & swap connectors (dont leave it connected all the time). Thats why I did the mod really, no hot start probs - but a reasonable alternative for engine protection until I can get an accusump.

I brought the prestolite one last January see My Profile

Touch wood I havent had any problems with it, cranks a lot faster than the original and is smaller so maybe better as a little further away from the Hot Stuff and more airflow around it!! MAde by a South African company so hopefully they have tried and tested in a Hot country

Havent done the relay as havent needed to, but maty do for piece of mind in the near future as pretty simple..
