Many Thai dishes and other recipes call for chicken mince. Can I find any supermarket that sells it?
Asda / Sainsbury's / Tesco / Waitose - nope
Ocado - nope
I don't have a mincer. The local butcher said he would rather not do it for a small batch as it means a full clean down (he would do a big batch)
Turkey mince is widely available. Chicken burgers (made from chicken mince) are increasingly available.
i can buy a selection of about 5 soy sauces, 3 palm sugars, even fresh turmeric at the supermarket. But not minced chicken.
Am I missing something?
No, you're not. I've never seen chicken mince anywhere, turkey, pork, lamb and beef but never chicken.
One answer is to fine dice the chicken then pulse in a processor. May end up a bit like puree chicken though.
If its something you would use regularly it worth the investment in a small mincer.

I would get a mincer and mince your own. That way you know what's gone in isn't just the scrag-ends off the processing plant floor. You'd have full control over texture, proportions of breast/thigh meat for best texture. And from a hygiene & safety point of view it's better - once the meat is minced the surface area exposed to oxygen and so forth is so much greater, if it's been minced just before cooking there's going to be way less bacteria etc.

Shouldn't matter too much as long as you are cooking it off properly!21TonyK said:
I stand corrected. Just google "chicken mince"... Tescos do it as do Sainsburys and Iceland do it frozen.
Maybe its only available is areas where there is a demand?
(To add, round here I get sideways looks asking for tahini or saffron!)
I did google. For me Tesco and Sainsburys show it as no longer available (but is in their catalogue)Maybe its only available is areas where there is a demand?

Shouldn't matter too much as long as you are cooking it off properly! With the recent scandals with the Two Sisters chicken production (their facility is a few hundred metres from my lock-up) I'd rather not take any unnecessary risks by having the likes of them processing my chicken.

So it is, didn't get to look that far.Simple answer then is pick up a cheap mincer. And to get full use get a cheap sausage stuffer as well.
Home made merguez and chorizo planned for the summer here!

You can get a mincer online...
Erm... not touching that one.. A basic food processor/whiz is be able to mince meat if you are only going to be doing this every few months. I use mine on occasion if I want to mince up some decent chuck steak (it produces some nice largish sized pieces that are good for pies and chills).

Chicken thigh fillets.
Cut into strips, cut strips into smallish dice. Job done.
Slightly more fiddly than is ideal, but at least you know exactly what you're eating.
Works very well in Thai stir fries.

And if it fails I will post on Grindr that I'm looking for spring chicken and I like to mince.
