Driving from the M20 onto the M26 I noticed that the average speed cameras continued after you exit the M20 onto the M26. I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that once you leave the motorway onto another one that the restrictions would automatically end unless there is a repeater sign of some sort?

As there was a traffic jam on the M20, I just went straight back up to 70 once leaving the M20 onto the M26 which was clear and then suddenly spotted the (last) camera set and a 50 sign just before it. Can't quite remember where the last camera was on the M20 though so as an average I expect to be below the 50 anyway but I wasn't expecting to see another camera there at all.

If you leave an area with variable limits you would see a "end of restriction" sign (or national speed limit sign to most) before you should accelerate, otherwise the last speed limit sign that you passed still remains in force.

This is the case on all motorways I've been on which have a variable limit.

Confused on M20 too. 50 limit, then variable speed limit ends with white circle and black diagonal, and then the next gantry repeats the previous 50 limit.
