NIP received dated 5 July. Need licence for hire car 22 August.

Is it worth not returning NIP form until as late as possible (within 28 days) so still have paper licence for 22 August? Based on court hearing some time in August then xx days to send licence off for points? Tks.

You don't need your licence to hire a car - it's all online and you give the rental company a code that you create allowing them to view your licence and any endorsements.

Not necessarily. I’ve rented cars regularly over the past few years last time in March. I’ve always been asked for sight of my photo card license but never for the DVLA code, though that was requested by a new insurer recently.

What was the offence? If a court appearance is required then they're not normally that quick.

Bit above national limit on A12 via average speed camera so hoping for a fixed penalty. Not court now - maybe I got that wrong? Presumably they have to be dished out somehow? Thankfully a few years since last one!

Renting car on business in US so don't want any issues. Avis ask for the licence but passport might work. Thanks.

What is the alleged speed? It's tough for anyone to advise if you're going to be vague about it!

All being well you should be offered a speed awareness course.

OK... If it were a penalty I'd still be interested to know timing and when licence might need sending away. Thanks for replies.

If you get an offer of a fixed penalty then you send your licence in if you accept that. It's generally dealt with in a few days, but might vary locally, plus it's holiday time etc.

You threw me a bit in your OP when you said about Court - that usually takes many months and I don't think you let go of your licence at all if you go to court.
