Insane sore throat....slow response to antibiotics
Discussion
So last thursday morning i had a sore throat, by the evening i wentvto bed with the shivers.
Spent friday, saturday, sunday under a duvet in a winter coat!!!! Coukd eat a thing, throat on fire.
Assumed viral amd not yo bother GP.
Sunday night, actually look at thriatcwith a torch a big white patches confirm bacterial, not viral.
GP agrees monday am and gives me antib’s.
Now im 36 hrs in to the course so i know, early days....sbd i feel a lot better (as i did by mon am) so no more fever........but MY GOD my throat is mad. I have to spit more than swallow. Food is no hope. Just water for the tablets is a killer.
Taking ibuprofen, paracetimol, salt gargles.......when does the throat calm down? Im flushed with antibiotics arent i???? Currently down half a stone!

Nursed 2 kids through 6 doses of tonsillitis over the last 2 years.
After succumbing to it once myself, I have every sympathy for you and them. Truly awful experience.
Antibiotics usually start to have an impact 48 to 72 hours after starting course, so shouldn't be long now.
My doctor recommended me Strefen lozenges at the time. Same brand as Strepsils but not completely useless. Over counter only and contain some form of ibuprofen. I found these very effective.
Good luck!

You have tonsillitis then, can be nasty but does pass quite quickly once the antibiotics do there thing, last bout I had they kicked in within 12 hours, one before didn't really see an improvement until day 5!
Ice cream will help both with energy, pain and recovery (your body still needs calories) also jelly cold from the fridge. Basically treat yourself like a sick child with tonsillitis and you'll recover just fine
Never found lozenges or throat sprays particularly useful beyond giving me a numb tongue so never bothered however some swear by them.

More likely to be tonsillitis but my daughter was treated with antibiotics twice and there was no difference. She then came out in a terrible rash from head to toe. Her throat just kept getting worse and like yourself not eating at all.Spent friday, saturday, sunday under a duvet in a winter coat!!!! Coukd eat a thing, throat on fire.

After about three weeks of nothing helping it turned out she had glandular fever.
Could be Quincy.
Like tonsillitis but worse! If your breath smells of a rotting corpse then get to hospital. I had this two years ago, its tonsillitis that gets worse and a sack of puss forms at the back of your throat, making it impossible to swallow and it also blocks your airways when lying on your back.
Nasty stuff, spent two days in hospital have anti biotics feed via a drip, as the ones prescribed by the docs weren't strong enough.

I had this when I was 18 months old, was in hospital for a while in a bad way by all accounts. I'd been taken to the doctors numerous times and they'd said it was nothing to worry about. Fortunately the last one decided otherwise.Like tonsillitis but worse! If your breath smells of a rotting corpse then get to hospital. I had this when I was a teenager and was misdiagnosed too, I ended up in hospital getting pumped with antibiotics which did clear it eventually. Very painful I’d get back to the Doctor or at least get a phone call if possible.A paracodol type stronger painkiller should ease it a little as they’re a bit stronger.
I've had bacterial tonsillitis twice in the last 10 months, if that's what you have then I feel for you, it wiped me out, almost had to psych myself up to swallow at time.
The first time I had it I left it for a few days, thought it would pass, eventually went to the doctor and put on antibiotics, took a good 3-4 days for the sore throat to improve, the fever went within 1-2 days. After the sore throat was gone I had a lot of problems with mouth ulcers, I lost so much weight over that period.
The symptoms then returned about 4 months later, this time I knew what I was looking for and as soon as I had a sore throat and white patches on my throat I was straight onto antibiotics, this time the sore throat went within a day or 2 and I didn't have all the other issues.
I think the fact you left it a while like I did the first time will make recovery take a little longer.

They took no swab. Just visual.
Right, probably time to politely tell your GP to stop being a lazy prick.Tiggsy said:
