Invitation to suggest holiday destinations.....
Discussion
Stef (wife) and myself have planned a quick holiday in October. We are now looking for a destination and I thought I would call upon fellow PHer to share experiences and make recommendations. The criteria are:
- We'd go for a week only, so this makes flying more than 4 hours a bit pointless/expensive;
- The purpose is just to put our feet up and take it easy, a bit a cultural activities/ sightseeing would be a plus;
- Sea, sun and beach are a perquisite, good scuba diving spot would be preferred;
- The 'Club Reps' type resorts are not an option - Stef will be over 5 month pregnant so we want to chill out;
Ideally, I'd like to hear from those of you who have found great off-the-beaten-tracks spots around the Med. The small village with a friendly hotel or B&B...
Come on... surprise me!
Cheers

Small village in Provence, 15 mins from Aix-en-Provence. Under the slopes of the Montagne St. Victoire.
Off the beaten track, but very nice...
Oh, and it's in France.

Goole near Hull.........
Seriously though folks, the Northern (Turkish) side of Cyprus.
Kyrenia mountains, the best beaches on the Island and Turkish influenced food is better IMHO than the now basterdised version of Greek Cypriot food.
Only problem is that I think you have to fly in via Turkey so might be 4 hours +....

We had an excellent holiday in Lesbos (Greek Island) about 4 years ago. Probably one of the most unspoilt Greek Islands I have ever visited. Tourism is a low key industry. Plenty to see - Roman Aquaduct, Roman baths you can swim in, petrified forest. Plus more than the average number of Lesbians which Mr Big found interesting. You will need to hire a car to get around tho'
Big M - I'm not 100% sure on that, so don't take my word for it!
I saw so many bloody islands (and we had a map related issue at one point - it went overboard)... but a lot of the islands were covered in neon signs etc etc...
Thassos was refreshing though. Get away from the tourist trail and it's great. Hired a jeep and drove up to Kastro - 12KM of dirt track... had to use low-ration 4WD to get up the mountain, but well worth it! Fantastic views and utter peace and quiet (apart from Mrs Podie of course!)
