4 years ago I had the wheels on my 2007 997 Turbo refurbished by having them re-diamond cut. Recently, on all four wheels, I noticed some blemishes around some of the wheel nut slots and in the middle of a couple of the spokes. There is no damage around the rims as the car hasn't been kerbed.

The local wheel refurbishment company said to me that the damage to the wheel nut slots was probably due to when the tyres were changed as there is only a coat of lacquer over the metal of the diamond cut bit of the wheel. The damage between the spokes could be due to a stone hitting the wheel.

The wheels are original Porsche wheels from new and so the diamond cut is only on the face of the wheel. Between the spokes the wheels are powder coated.

He suggested that to avoid having this proble again I should have the whole of each wheel powder coated. He showed me examples of modern powder coated wheels some of which look great.

If I go down this route willl it make any difference to the originality of the car or doesn't it matter?

I've had a full powder coated refurb. instead of a diamond cut finish on the outer barrel on my split rim 996 wheels on the recommendation of the guy who does the work. The diamond cut finishes can be less durable to stone chips and also to issues with cleaning products (they recommend not to use wheel cleaners on any finish ideally).

The choice is yours, though I'd suggest that in any event, you might only have 2-3 possible refurbs. out of diamond cut wheels given the way in the process is completed. On an 11 year old car, you wouldn't expect necessarily to see a full factory original paint spec and even diamond cut refurbs. will have a possible slight colour difference to the original factory finish.

Thanks for your helpful reply.

I will now have them powder coated.
