What year did the 944 lose its rain gutters? Did it coincide with the introduction of the oval dash? Do any of the turbo/s2 models still have the rain gutters like my lux does?

Thanks,

Mark

Really? You mean the sticky out ones traditionally used to clamp roof racks too like this...

The old style ones which stick out of the roof were replaced by inset style gutters. You can attach a roof rack to the earlier type and not the latter.

As far as I know it is also possible to attach a roof rack to the latter (the Porsche roof rack, anyway).

My 89 oval dash S2 is gutterless. Have a look at Paddy Hopkirk racks in Halfords. They have a large number of interchangable fixings for their racks, cheaper than others. I'm sure there must be one that will fit a later porsche. (I carry my canoes on a Ford!)

I use paddy hopkirk ones on my car but the only problem with the gutterless systems (as far as I can see) is that instead of gripping the gutter they grip the inside of the door frame if you see what I mean. With a 944 this would mean having both bars fitted to the front door frame and that would result in the bars being closer together than I'd like. I think Thom is right in that the porche system is the one I'd need assuming I can find one as they are apparently quite rare.

I suppose I could get something cheap to cart the kayaks about but it's something I've been trying to avoid.

Regards,

Mark
