My brother plans to get engaged whilst on holiday but isn't sure how to get the ring there without her knowing. They will have a suitcase each but the hand luggage will be hers. Anyone out there done this before?

If they have a suitcase each then surely just put it in his own suitcase? Unless he wants to propose on the plane, then its a Christopher Walken Pulp Fiction scenario.

Embed the ring into a standard bar of marzipan, wrap tightly with kitchen foil. Attach a small digital kitchen timer to the package with duct tape, set to go off 1hr into the flight, so he doesn't forget.

Lost luggage really doesn’t happen that often. He could always put the box in his suitcase and the actual ring in his pocket. He then just needs to be a bit clever at hiding it under his wallet, keys, phone, etc when going through security. She’ll be too busy sorting her own stuff to look through his tray.

I've told him to just wrap it in tissue and stick it in his wallet.

Stick the ring into his own pocket, slip a hand grenade into the bride-to-be's pocket then slip through security unnoticed while she's being wrestled to the ground.

I have just got engaged whilst on holiday (last week)

He took the ring out of its box and kept it in his wallet. He smuggled the box in the suitcase without me knowing (in a shoe)

I did this last September to New Zealand.

Had the ring in the box hidden in a rolled.up pair of socks in my hand luggage. Hidden in plain sight.

This made me think of the Christopher Walken watch scene. But I'd give it a good clean before making the proposal if you do this.

Toe ring - or hide in wallet and put box in checked luggage.

This, did exactly same when I proposed in NYC. Trickier bit was actually hiding it in our rented apartment, finding a secure spot where neither she or the cleaner would find it!

Swallow it. Should be ready for recovery the following day.
